Growing

Lots of new things to share today!

First up, the barn!!!!!

new barn

The crew showed up just before 7:00 this morning and worked until dinner time!

The chicken coop is now racing the barn. ;)

Dave got all of the wood to do the framing milled so he worked all day on putting it to use. It is going to have some plexiglass windows to let in light and a fenced in run on the uphill side. The run will be for times when we will be away and the winter. The plan is for the chickens to free range the majority of the time.

The guienna fowl will have a separate coop on the south side of the barn. Instead of a fenced run for winter, they will have access to the inside of the barn.

Last but not least...we have added even more animals! Today we went and picked up three kittens from Lucy's bus driver. A stray had a litter of five under his porch and he was trying to find homes for them. Knowing that we are suckers, I mean kind farmers, he asked us if we would take any of them. After calling around for an affordable option for spaying/neutering, I talked Dave into three kittens. We grabbed the first three we could get our hands on from under the porch and brought them home. We have not yet determined if they are boys or girls, so no names yet. One is very mellow but the others hiss and spit at us. We are guessing they are five to six weeks old, so I have some kitten formula (who knew Tractor Supply sold kitten formula!) and I am going to get some wet cat food tomorrow to also offer them.

They look pretty scared in this picture, but I assure you they were snuggling into the blankets after drinking some milk replacer about an hour ago.

I will try to make sure to post a picture of the barn and coop each day until they are done so check back soon!
